Men in Black 3 is a 2012 American science fiction-action film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, with the screenplay written by Etan Cohen. It is the third installment of Sony's Men in Black film series and stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve and Emma Thompson. The plot focuses on Agents K (Will Smith) and J (Josh Brolin), members of an intergalactic organization known as "The Men in Black", who protect Earth from invasive extraterrestrial life forms. The film was released in conventional theaters on May 25, 2012, by Columbia Pictures.
Sony Pictures announced on November 13, 2009 that a third installment of the Men in Black film series would be made. There was a script draft by Matthew Carnahan, but this was rejected for unknown reasons. On March 7, 2010, Sony announced that Barry Sonnenfeld would direct the film from a screenplay written by Etan Cohen. Sonnenfeld's previous films include "Son of Smokey", "Get Shorty", "Wild Wild West" and "Get Smart". In June 2010, Will Smith re-joined the cast to reprise his role as Agent J. On July 4, 2010, it was announced that Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones and Jemaine Clement would reprise their previous roles from the previous two films. On September 2, 2010, Alice Eve joined the cast to possibly provide the film's female lead. In October 20, 2010 it was reported that Eddie Jemison had been cast as a villain in an unspecified role.Principal photography for Men in Black 3 began on November 8 and wrapped up on January 31, 2011. The production filmed at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Iver Heath Park near Watford in Hertfordshire and at Elstree Studios for interiors including Mexico City and Jodie Foster's house on Hollywood Boulevard. The "London Calling" tag was replaced by the "Thieves in the Night" tag when filming began in January 2011. Filming took place in Mexico between February 22 and March 15, 2011. The last scene shot for Men in Black 3 was the nighttime scene of Will Smith visiting J's old apartment building, where he spots Henri Lubatti (played by recurring MIB member Maurice Nedjar). Production wrapped up at least partially on March 31, 2011, when Sonnenfeld posted a picture on his Twitter page with Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin that was taken at Iver Heath Park near Watford, England. In April 2011, Sony Pictures announced that the film's title would be changed from "Men in Black 3" to simply "MIB 3". In May 2011, it was announced that composer Heitor Pereira had begun work on the film's score. In June 2011, Mike McCahill joined the crew as a second unit director.In December 2010, Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton hinted at a possible change in release date for Men in Black 3. It was originally planned for a May 25, 2012 release, but on January 14, 2011, it was postponed by two weeks to June 29.
